UPI expense tracker: every UPI payment, tracked automatically
ArthPulse tracks every UPI payment you make, automatically, from the SMS alert your bank sends. It works whichever UPI app you pay with, sorts each payment by merchant and category, and adds them up across all your banks. You never type a transaction, and you never link your bank.
Why UPI spending is so hard to keep track of
UPI made paying effortless, which is exactly the problem. ₹40 for chai, ₹180 for an auto, ₹349 for a food order: each one is too small to notice and gone in a second. Spread them across two or three UPI apps and a couple of bank accounts, and no single app shows you the total. Most people find out what a month cost them only when the balance is lower than they expected.
How ArthPulse tracks UPI payments
- You pay as usual, with any UPI app.
- Your bank sends its alert SMS, as it already does for every debit.
- ArthPulse reads that alert and records the amount, the date, who you paid and the account it came from.
- It sorts the payment into a category (food, groceries, travel, bills, shopping and more) and adds it to your monthly picture.
Because it reads your bank's alert rather than the UPI app, it catches payments from Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, your bank's own app or any other UPI app, without connecting to any of them.
What makes it work for UPI specifically
- It remembers who you paid. A UPI alert often shows only a UPI ID, like
name@okbank. ArthPulse keeps that ID, so when you tell it once that this payee is your landlord or your milkman, future payments to the same ID are sorted the same way. - It learns from your corrections. Change a merchant's name or category once, and the next payments to them follow.
- It does not double-count. Paying your credit card bill over UPI, or moving money between your own accounts, is recorded as a transfer, not as spending, so your totals stay honest.
- Every bank in one view. UPI payments from all your accounts land in one list and one monthly total, alongside your card spending.
What you see
- Your total spend this month, and how it compares with last month
- Where it went, by category, and your top merchants
- Money in as well as money out: salary, refunds and savings
- Every transaction, on your phone and on the web dashboard
Private by design
ArthPulse never asks for your UPI PIN or a bank login, and it cannot make payments. On the Google Play version, OTPs and personal messages are filtered out on your phone before anything is uploaded, and there are no ads or third-party trackers in the app. Here is exactly what we read and what we never touch.
Good to know
- Android only for automatic tracking. iPhones do not let apps read SMS.
- It needs the SMS. A payment your bank does not send an alert for (some banks skip very small payments or UPI Lite) cannot be tracked.

Get ArthPulseQuestions
Does ArthPulse work with Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm?
Yes, and with every other UPI app. ArthPulse reads the SMS alert your bank sends when money leaves your account, so it does not matter which UPI app you paid with.
Do I need to give ArthPulse my UPI PIN or link my bank?
No. ArthPulse never asks for a UPI PIN, a bank login or an account aggregator link. It only reads the transaction alerts your bank already sends you by SMS, and it cannot make payments.
Why are some UPI payments missing?
ArthPulse can only track a payment your bank sends an SMS for. Some banks do not send an SMS for very small payments or for UPI Lite, and those cannot be picked up.
Does ArthPulse work on iPhone?
Automatic tracking needs an Android phone, because iPhones do not let apps read SMS. You can view your data on any device through the ArthPulse web dashboard.
