Savings rate calculator

Your savings rate is the share of your income you keep: income minus spending, divided by income. Enter your monthly figures to see yours, what it adds up to over a year, and how many months of spending a year of saving covers.

Enter your monthly income and monthly spending.

Why your savings rate matters more than your salary

Two people on the same salary can be in completely different places a year later. What decides it is not how much comes in but how much stays. Tracking the rate month by month also tells you whether a change, cooking more or cutting cabs, is actually working.

Getting the inputs right

Know the real numbers, every month

Most people guess their monthly spending, and guess low. ArthPulse works it out from your bank, card and UPI alerts: income and spending side by side every month, with transfers, card bill payments and refunds kept out, and an early salary counted in the month it is meant for (how salary tracking works).

Questions

How do I calculate my savings rate?

Subtract your monthly spending from your monthly income, divide the result by your income, and multiply by 100. If you earn 80,000 rupees and spend 60,000, you save 20,000, a savings rate of 25%.

What counts as spending when calculating a savings rate?

Everything you spend, including rent and EMIs. Do not count money moved to your own savings or investment accounts, credit card bill payments for purchases already counted, or refunds; those are not spending.
